Unexpected Period Two Weeks Apart: Causes & What to Do

Question
Hi,

I am not sure if I'm in the right section, but here it goes.

On June 3, or 4th I got my period. It lasted the normal 4-5 days. Then on June 27th, I had it again, but this time it was really heavy and I was cramping really bad. The cramps only lasted a couple of days, but I would soak through a tampon every half hour to a hour. Today is my last day, but it's just freaking me out that it came a week early. I do have a three month old, don't know if that would mean anything. What would cause this? I am sexually active and not on any form of birth control. Should I expect another cycle around the 27th again? Please help.

Answer
Hello Tina from the U.S. (Indiana),

If your period started on the 3rd, then this cycle would have been 25 days.  That is within normal limits (+/- 7 days).  There is always the possibility that you were pregnant and had a very early miscarriage, since you are sexually active and not on contraception, but there would be no way to know that at this time.  It is most likely that your cycles will return to normal.

Good Luck,
