Understanding Short Menstrual Cycles: Is 23 Days Normal?

Question
hi...i am 37 years old and i got my period on september 1st and bled for about 4 days...then i started bleeding again on september 23rd...is this normal? thank you!

Answer
A cycle is considered normal if there are 21-35 days from the beginning of one period to the beginning of the next. If you started a period on September 1 and then gain on September 23, that is 23 days and is within normal limits. If you continue to have 23 day cycles, you will ovulate on cycle day #9 (fourteen days prior to your period) and can become pregnant if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #9,10,11, or 12.  It is common for a woman to have more frequent periods as she approaches her forties. Just keep a record of your periods.
