Ear Redness: Causes & What Might Be Triggering It
QuestionI notice that my right ear gets very red usually in the evenings and often if I've had some wine to drink...any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks
AnswerYes,the ears have what we call end arteries so when we eat or drink something which dilates blood vessels they turn red and get warm. Alcohol does this as does niacin. The other areas of the body with end arteries that respond in this way are the fingers and toes and nose so all these areas tend to get warm and red with wine and niacin. Sometimes the you may notice the ears ring a little also from the same process. These and certain medications known as vasodilators have similar properties such as the nitrates we use for heart disease. OK?
