Braxton Hicks Contractions at 21 Weeks: What to Expect

Question
I'm 21 weeks pregnant right now and I am just wondering if it's normal for me to be having contractions right now. I started getting them infrequently around 19 weeks or so but now I get one almost everyday. Only my right side of the abdomen contracts and it usually happens when I'm lying down or sitting. Is it too early to have contractions? Is it something else I should be worried about?

Answer
Hi,

You are experiencing braxton hicks contractions which are nothing to worry about. Just about every pregnant woman is going to feel braxton hicks contractions start in the second trimester. Typically they don't cause any problems with pregnancy, labor, or birth. If you are still worried, contact your doctor.
