Frequent Nighttime Vomiting in Children: Causes & When to Worry

Question
My 4 yr.old daughter frequently vomits at night after she's been sleeping for maybe 20 to 30 minutes.  After she's been awakened she seems to stop and be okay.  She does this maybe 4 to 5 times a month.  She has had frequent sinus infections and I would really like to get to the bottom of this.  Thank you for your help.

Answer
When she vomits, is it ALWAYS when she has a sinus infection or could the vomiting episodes be completely unrelated to the upper respiratory infectios?

Another thing to consider is whether she has a recurrent bladder infection... so she should have a urine sample done.

Another potential cause is a food intolerance... you should track what she eats when she vomits.  Milk products are notorious for this.

We also downplay stomach problems like reflux disease and peptic ulcer disease, but they do occur in children.

So, where to start... make the medicine addition (OTC Zantac)twice a day and see how she feels.

Hope this helps...
