Frequent Illnesses in Toddlers: Understanding Potential Causes & Next Steps
QuestionMy two year old child is always sick. He has been to the doctors 38 times in the last 18 months. His weight is constantly up and down, and below the 25% mark. He has loads of energy and learns quickly. So no problems there. He is mostly sick with respitory, always pneumonia and bronchitis. He has also had spells of diarrhea for more than a week, once up to six weeks. I am wondering if he has an immune disorder or what you think I should do because it is exhausting and my husband and I are sick of going to the doctors. We met this years deductible the first couple weeks of Jan. Please help!!!!!!!
Answerthe first thing I ask is whether he is in daycare. If so, this is not unusual.... I would ask the doctor about this, but it sounds like your child probably has some allergies and chronic bronchitis and this is alway made worse by repeated exposures to other sick children. Chances are, your child is OK, but... it might be worth testing for some of the immune problems.... sorry, I know this is frustrating...
