Inguinal Hernia Mesh Repair Recovery: What to Expect
QuestionHi there,
I am 38 and pretty active (exercise 3-5 times a week). I had the Inguinal Hernia repair with mesh about 10 weeks ago. How long does it take to fully recover. I still have pain in the area when I exercise, especially doing sit-ups. But, also when on the treadmill.
Thanks for your help.

Answer10 weeks means that you can pretty much do whatever you want... it may not be completely healed or strong, but situps and muscle strengthening is a good thing. You were probably "down" as far as exercise goes for a while and it will take a while to build back up. I wouldn't want you doing something like heavy free weights yet, but the above stuff is fine... I expect you will have pain as you recover, and as the tissue heals with some scarring, but it should fade away as you become more and more active. That is also a reasonable question to ask your operating surgeon.
Hope this helps....
