Persistent Arm Pain After Flu Shot: Causes & Relief

Question
I am doing online research about my problem and I came across you.  I got the flu shot approximately Nov 9, 2005; 2 months ago.  I still have arm pain from it.  Today I went to work out; I swam laps for 40 minutes.  While I swam my arm bothered me, and now once in awhile I have pain going down my arm.  In addition, I usually have pain in my arm when I make simple movements like putting on my seatbelt.  No matter which way I move my arm it hurts.  Please give me an indication of what is wrong and when and if the pain will go away.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Since you didn't mention swelling, I assume that it won't be a small hematoma, a bruise caused by the needle hitting a small vein and it bleeds a little, and the pressure causes pain.  What is more likely if there wasn't swelling is the needle accidentally hit one of the small skin nerves and damaged it so it is sending abnormal messages to the brain.  These usually go away in 3 months or so.  It is very unlikely that there would be any permanent pain or damage.

Hope this helps...
