Potassium Supplements: Benefits, Dosage & Safety - Expert Advice
QuestionHi. I emailed before and mentioned that I have been having muscle twitches. Yesterday I drank 1 liter of pedialyte which has a lot of potassium in it. It seems like potassium is helping my twitches. Do you ever recommend potassium supplements, and if so, what dosage? Also, do they have any side effects? Thanks for your help!
AnswerHi Jennifer,
Be careful with taking too much Potassium. Too much can cause heart rhythm irregularities. Under normal circumstances, a healthy person does not need supplemental Potassium. If you DO have a Potasium deficiency, then that needs to be looked into. There is no "safe" dose for Potassium without knowing what sort of deficit already exists.
