Question
pain place
Dear Kathryn how are you? i am Rasha , one month ago i fixed hangers on my kitchen wall , used manual screw driver , it took me effort to screw ,i used my right hand, the second day a bunch of muscles start to ache ,( the upper distal and mesial part about 5 cm square starting from my elbow down toward my hand ,i am gonna attach a photo for the area) the pain was like sore muscle after exercise , so i said it's a couple of days and it will go away , but that soreness lasts till now , it's not too much pain since i can do all my duties at home , but only when i lift objects while my arm in the horizontal position ( parallel to the ground i feel some pain and on palpation there is pain too )so dear is this a serious situation calls for doctor visit or it's simple and will heal by itself , by massage or anti inflammatory and muscle relaxant medicine , is there any thing i can do at home to heal the muscles? thank you in advance .
AnswerHello Rasha,
I am fine, thank you for asking!
This will heal by itself. It is taking a long time so the muscles were really unhappy.
The tenderness you feel with palpation means that there is some tightness in the muscles. But it's okay to massage tender areas of soft tissue.
Yes, massage will help. But don't massage only the area of discomfort--also massage the muscles below and above the painful area.
Ice is a wonderful self-help tool, too. Either use ice as a quick massage tool or place cold packs on the area and surrounding areas. There are articles about how to use ice at

I had best results when I was injured with Aleve (sodium naproxin) which is over the counter in the USA. Just one dose made a huge difference. I feel it is the best antiinflammatory medication. Even though I don't like to take medicine a nurse friend suggested this to me and I was impressed.
If you wrap your other hand around your lower arm and duplicate the screwing motion you used you will be able to feel which parts of the muscle are involved. They go from your wrist to your middle upper arm.
Here is the link to a video which will help your arm and shoulder muscles:

I hope this helps and that you will feel well very quickly. Please let me know if you have further questions about this.
Thank you for writing.
