QuestionI'm 18 and started my periods at 13. However they have never been frequent and regular, and have gotten to the point now where they can come once every 1.5 months, or every 2 or 3 months. Especially lately they are very infrequent. But when I have them they last about 8 days. Are they going to stop? Also, I sometimes have a strange brown, gooey discharge that lasts about 2 days. I think it is the start of my periods but then it stops and nothing happens. I have had that about 3 times in the last 6 months. Can you help me? I don't want to go to my doctor as it's too embarrassing but I'm worried I am having some sort of premature menapause or something.
AnswerAre they going to stop? No, not likely at your age.

You need to see your doctor for an exam and evaluation of your ovaries.

menapause or something. See your doctor for the correct answer but it is unlikely to be either.
In some patients this is due to an immune disorder caused by too much plant oil called omega 6 in your diet which is high in chicken, peanuts, turkey, all kind of chips, granola and flax plus products with any of these in them. Some patients can improve their symptoms by taking 3 1000mg fish oil capsules or 2 tsp of omega 3 fish oil before each meal and at bedtime but always check in with your doctor to be sure this is OK for you.
