Understanding Vestibular Artery Issues & Treatment Options

Question
Doctor:  my father age 74 recently had some double vision which lasted about 4 hours and he stated back in the summer he also had one similar episode but only about 20 seconds, he seen a good eye doctor who ordered an MRI and found that his right vestrabsilar artery was not seen on the mri, all his other arteries are ok just that one, he stated this is what caused his problem and referred back to the family doctor.  Can you tell me what the treatment is for this?   He is on avapro, lopressor, and hctz for hypertension, his cholesterol may have been slightly elevated over the years but never that bad, he had been diagnosed about 10 years ago, with intermittent claduification in his legs.  Oddly enough he took some natural supplements and stated that it totally went away ( the leg pain) from herbal treatment.  I have been working with his eye doctors office to refer my dad to a neurologist in the same hospital, but the eye doctor for some reason wants us to go the route of the family md.   Can you offer your thoughts on this problem/.   He has COPD, Macular degeneration, he had in the past been borderline diabetic, he had a sleep study and was negative for apnea, he has a productive cough that has been chronic (10 years) of colorless and sometimes yellow plemgh.  He has never had any cardiac problems although his brother has had extensive cardiac issues and his father died at age 45 of a heart attack.

Answer
I don't believe that MRI finding has anything to do with double vision....  if he doesn't have a right vertebro-basilar artery then he never had one and that part of the brain gets it's blood supply from another artery.... double vision has many causes one of them being periph neuropathy.  There is no specific treatment for double vision or for absence of that artery. It sounds like the other things are treated... cholesterol, BP, etc.  Good luck...
