Understanding Post-Gallbladder Surgery Symptoms: What Could Cause Bile Vomiting?

Question
My father had gallbladder surgery last year but he throws up very often this thick yellow liquid, bile I think. I know this is a sign of a gallbladder problem but since he's already had it removed what else could it be.  He's been to doctors but he's 80 and they just say it's just problems with digestion, etc. due to his age.

Answer
Blanca,

You did not say what type of surgery your father had.  Did he have the entire gall bladder removed or stones removed?

The liver is also responsible for digesting fats and there could be a blockage in one of the bile ducts.  I would insist on having diagnostic tests and lab work.

Even though he is 80 this is not normal.  If he is having digestive problems they need to find out why.  There are many tests they can do that are either very minimally invasive or non-invasive.  Vomiting bile is a symptom and the body is trying to say something is not quite right.

See a good gastro-enterologist.
