QuestionI had spur surgery in Oct 2006. A seroma or pocket formed at the incision site, tissue death followed. Antibotics fed through a pick line remedied the infection. It is now March 2007 and there is still very slight drainage however it looks to be mostly closed and the foot feels better every day. I expected it would be heeled much before this. Now, I have noticed the heel pad on the bottom of my foot is not near as thick as my good foot and there are even wrinkles and loose skin on the bottom of the heel that had the surgery. I am concerned if that happened because of the tissue death and will it ever fill out again to the degree that it once was before surgery?
Thank you so much for your great service.

Answerthese are complicated problems.... the complication is that you can't rest this area very well because you need to walk.... therefore, if there is joint inflammation, it can keep on smoldering and not get completely better. If it is still draining, this has to be evaluated by your surgeon. Yes, it can get completely better, even with the previous tissue death and space that was created. It will take time, but the body has a tremendous ability to heal itself. See the doc, though, if there still is drainage.
