Diverticulosis Surgery: Risks, Laparoscopic Procedures & When is Surgery Necessary?

Question
Because of this continuing problem with above what might be if any risks of this type of surgery?

I do not have any bleeding as such just on and off constipation.  Fibre helps but I never really feel satisfied.

Is laproscopic surgery used for this method as I had that for gall bladder surgery?

Answer
I just finished doing a colonoscopy with diverticulosis.... I am not sure why you would have surgery for diverticula unless they were extensively bleeding, or if there were infections.  This is not done with a laparascope... it is an open procedure, but done with a tool that cuts the colon and then reattaches the two ends, if there is a mid section removal of it.  If someone simply has constipation, we can always fix that with appropriate amounts of miralax (glycolax) but I am not sure why a doctor would suggest surgery unless there are the above symptoms.

Hope this helps.....
