QuestionMy fiance's mother started giving his son a cream containing progesterone claiming that it would help burn fat cells (the child is overweight). I told her that considering that he was only 11 and still not gone through puberty that this was not a wise thing and that if there was no harm in it she should get doctor approval first. Can you give me any information on this? Pros, cons? Was I right in stopping her? I am very concerned for this child's well being as she many times has "crazy" ideas. The prouct in question is Arbonne's Prolief which is only for use with women and men...both of which he is neither.
AnswerYou were right in stopping the mom. His hormones during puberty are changing, and he's not yet burning sugars and fats like he will once he's at least a tanner stage 4 (well into puberty, pubic hair and secondary sex characteristics). Fat burning for this kiddo is still accomplished the old fashioned way--eating less, moving more. The extent of my expertise is more about metabolism and puberty, so if I were researching Progesterone, I'd just google it, side effects and studies about it.
I'm glad there is someone rational to keep these crazy ideas in check!
