Recurring Vomiting in an 11-Year-Old Daughter: A Parent's Concern

Question
Dear Charles,
My 11 year old daughter has had "vomiting" episodes on the following
dates: 11/28/06, 12/1/06/,1/24/07,2/9/07(strep),3/19/07,4/3/07,5/1/
07,5/21/07,5/21/07,5/24/07,5/29/09(noon). All episodes have been at
night
(around midnight) with the exception of 5/29(noon). She complains of
stomach pain, vomits, continues to complain about pain, body temp is about
96.5, sleeps, then is hungry about 12 hours later, eating with no upsets. We
saw out pediatrician 5/25. He asked me to keep a journal and call the next
episode, which was today. I am extremely frustrated as I couldn't get past the
nurse who said it was a virus and to call back tomorrow. I am searching for
anything like this, but to no avail and came upon your website. My daughter
is very social, does well in school, is active and energetic. She has swum year
round for 5 years. No changes in diet, and there are no foods that she eats
that have been different and the cause. She does not c/o any headaches or
changes in vision prior to vomiting. I am extremely concerned as I thought
the dates were too much of a pattern to be any type of virus, and now the
frequency of episodes is increasing. I am looking forward to your guidance.
Many thanks!
Ida

Answer
Hi Ida,
Clearly this isn't a virus.
Are the vomiting days on the weekend, Sunday specifically?
She may have H.Pylori but that is a stretch.
Hate to say it, but in her age group it could be stress related. I know you said she's social and does well in school, but kids have a way of expressing their problems with physical symptoms. Just a thought.
If these symptoms continue to get closer and closer, a Gastrointestinal workup is in order.
