IUD and Period Changes: What to Expect & When to Seek Advice

I have had my IUD in for nearly a year had some spotting on and off for a month when it was first in and some cramping erratically but otherwise have been perfectly happy with it.

Two days ago however I started a full blown period and am wondering if this is normal? I thought that once you stopped getting your period you would maybe have occasional spotting but I am going through about 3-4 panty liners a day and just want to insure that I should not be going in to see someone about it.

I hope you have consulted your doctor about this by now. If you haven't, please do so as soon as possible. This could be something serious to your health.
