Understanding Elevated CK Levels: Causes, Symptoms & What to Do
QuestionDear Sir,
A few months ago, after a routine blood test, it revealed elevated ck levels. Not the heart ck, but the muscle enzymes. After meeting with my doctor, the only thing we came to a conclusion of is that a few days prior, I had gone to the gym for a workout. The workout was not too demanding, it was of regular intensity. I did have sore muscles because I had not worked out in one week. My ck levels were 4000. I believe my laboratory's norm is around 500. My doctor ordered blood work every 3 days to see if the ck's were lowering. They did. So my doctor did not order any further testing. I have noticed in the past year that I seem to have less physical endurance. Twice, in a bike run, I had to stop because I felt my legs start to shake and had no more strength to pedal. This is very unusual for me. I first suspected low blood sugar but it is not. Have a glucose machine and tested my blood very often. I am worried I might have some kind of myopathy. How can I convince my doctor for further testing. She knows about the bike incidents and knowing me, she also concluded it was not normal but is not sending me for more tests.
Regards,
Jennifer
AnswerWould probably see a sports med doctor who may be able to advise you to prevent this. We do this type of care but do not advise specific treatments on this website and not without examining the person. Sports med would be the best not knowing your location etc
