Understanding Abnormal Blood Test Results: A 29-Year-Old's Concerns
QuestionI had a recent blood test for work and got a couple of abnormal readings that I was trying to make sense of. I have a few High readings on the Bilirubin as follows as well as a couple of others:
Bilirubin, total - 3.2
Bilirubin, direct - 1.1
Indirect Bilirubin - 2.1
Iron Total - 186
A/G ratio - 2.4
On the low side my LDH is 115 and my WBC is 3.3. All the other test results came back in the norm. I'm 29 years old and overall pretty healthy. I exercise a few times a week and take daily multivitamin. I feel fine and haven't been sick in a long time. I was trying to make some sense of these combinations. Since some were slightly out of the range I wasn't sure whether this is something I need to follow up with my doctor. No feedback really from work doctors where the test was done, except the results. Don't know if it matters but I only have one kidney. I had my right kidney removed when I was nine. It was defective and caused infections and once removed I haven't had any problems the last 20 years.
Thanks,
Charles
Answeryou have Gilbert's Disease, an insignificant defect in metabolism of bilirubin.... it causes no long term problems, just a finding of some high bilirubin levels whenever the liver tests are checked.... no treatment needed, no need to worry, it won't shorten or worsen your life/health..... that is true, even given the fact that you have only 1 kidney
