Fruit Consumption and Blood Sugar: Understanding the Connection
QuestionHi, I have been eating the following fruits daily- an apple, grapes, 2 oranges a pear and also drink a glass of metamucil daily too. I have to eat alot of fiber because if I do not I get badly constipated. My issue is I have this sugar taste in my mouth now all the time and I'm thinking it is from all the fruit I've been eating daily. Also I would like to know if from eating all of this fruit if my blood sugar level is now going to get high. I think it is called your triclycerides level. I am afraid that since I have this sugar taste in my mouth that my sugar intake may be too high. Could this be true? Could eating alot of fruits and vegetables raise my blood sugar levels? Also besides eating more fiber is there something else I cauld be doing to help with my constipation? Other than the constipation I have no medical issues and am otherwise healthy. Thanks!
AnswerThat does not sound like too much fruit.... that is a good amount and with a balanced diet with the rest of carbs and proteins, you are probably doing good.
With constipation.... you should have your thyroid levels checked, then increase metamucil (or change to miralax) to the amount where you have a good BM every day or every other day.
Don't worry about triglycerides and fruit... that is raised by fats.
