Navigating Ethical Concerns with Your Doctor: A Guide

Question
I have a question regarding ethics and how I should best proceed.  My primary care physician, whom I like, respect and had trust in, apparently told one of my young adult children that I have "life issues" I'm not "dealing with properly" and "need help".  I intend to discuss this with the doctor, obviously, but my trust in this relationship is considerably eroded.  I'm unsure if I can continue as his patient.  Do you have any comments regarding this, can you help me to make a decision?  Thank you for your contribution to this site.

Answer
Ouch.... I am sorry that happened....

I know nothing of the details..... and don't jump to conclusions.... but if your doc did mention something, that is clearly inappropriate.  Sometimes, though, somebody else mentions something, etc.

But the good way to do it is to ask your doc, discuss it then decide whether you feel that staying with them is appropriate.
