QuestionIs an ANA result of 1:80 of any significance? This test was run while I was being evaluated for iron deficiency and this was the result. A few months later... same result. I've been told in the past I might have fibromyalgia and I have more aches and pains than most people my age. But nothing ever shows on tests or lab work so I just deal with it. Any reason to follow up with a Rheumatologist due to this test result?
In addition, what is the best way to fight chronic constipation aside from increasing fiber in the diet? Can you recommend a healthy, safe supplement? This has been a problem for me my entire life, but oral iron supplementation is only making things worse.
Answeryou have several questions.... easy ones first....
yes, iron causes constipation.... if you have chronic constipation, make sure your thyroid tests are normal. Then, treat with Miralax powder, 1 capful daily. It takes 3 days to normalize.... if you get diarrhea take 1/2 the dose. Constipation- double the dose. (make a change every 3 days if needed)
The lab tests for lupus (ANA and others) rheumatoid arthritis (RF) are vague and non-specific. Some people test positive but don't have the disease (false positive) Some symptoms are really vague. So, that is why we have specialists- rheumatologists to sort through all this "grey area."
It depends on how much joint pain you have as to whether this needs to be evaluated. And, your organs should be checked (probably are already) to make sure kidney function is normal, etc.
There is a big difference between myofascial pain and joint pain.... (in the muscles as opposed to the actual joints)
