Understanding Thyroid Lumps: Causes, Tests & Next Steps
QuestionMy son 49 yrs. has a small lump in centre of throat, area of thyroid, in the small pit between the collar bones I believe that is where the above gland is??? It does not hurt, had ultra sound, barium test and doc says nothing there. How can you have a lump that was not there before and now is? Any further tests available like asperation necessary?
AnswerThat could be at the bottom of the thyroid gland and it may be a cyst. I would think if it can be felt, that your doctor or a specialist that you will be referred to might want to do a needle biopsy of it... that is a very safe, pretty easy, relatively painless way to find out what tissue is in that lump.
