Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS): Risks & Impact of Maternal Alcohol Use

Question
What are the odds of a baby getting bad alcohol syndromes and what are thier risk when their mom drinks while they are pregnant?

Answer
Rosalinda,

Odds of a baby getting fetal alcohol syndrome if a mother drinks alcohol during pregnancy varies with the amount of alcohol that is consumed.  If a mom has a glass of wine every once in a while, chances of it effecting the baby adversly are very slim.  If a mom has an alcoholic beverage daily or sometimes more than that, then the chances are a lot higher that it will effect the baby.  It isn't a good idea to consume alcohol at all during pregnancy.  It isn't worth taking the chance.  I hope this helps.
