QuestionI know that when you have an iron shot administered it has to be done in hospital under a professional. Is it possible, if you were going on a long vacation and needed the iron shots -as they worked better than a supplement- to take them with you? If so, do they need to be kept refrigerated, or can they survive at room temp out of sunlight etc? (I'd like to know the second part of that question even if the answer is no to the first part)
Can you switch between having iron shots and tablets in general or do people usually stick to one or the other? When would iron shots be more recommended?- When they're anaemia is very severe? Hope you can help, I can't find a particular expert for this question.
Answerthey should be refrigerated... they could be injected by a non-medical person, but there is a small risk of allergic reaction and a bigger risk of tattooing your skin with the injection if the technique is not really good, so I wouldn't do it on your own.
Yes, you could use oral iron in the meantime. Typically those shots are given frequently when you start then monthly, so you should be able to work it around a vacation.
Some people have trouble absorbing iron pills so typically that is when we use injectable iron..... severe anemia requires blood transfusions.
I hope this helps....
