Cervical Cancer Stage 2: Understanding Treatment, Survival Rates & Risk

Question
Hello,

My mom has level 2 cervical cancer.  Last year it was level 1 but the doc said he couldn't do anything until the progressed a little.  So in Dec. the doc is going to use laser surgery for this. My mom really doesn't know too much about it until Dec.

So, would you answer a coule questions?
1. At level 2 what is the curable rate?  Is this something most people sirvive or is it like say lung cancer and just can't be cured?

2.Is this herditory?

3.Could you recommend a good site or book with lots on info for a novice?

Thank you,
Terrie

Answer
Dear Terrie,   There is no such thing as a cure for any type of cancer....  It is the hope of the patient and the doctor that with proper treatment like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy etc, that the cancer will be put in remission and never return, but this is still not called a cure because there is always the chance it will recurr....

Cervical cancer as well as breast cancer, lung cancer etc can all be hereditary and since you NOW have a family history of cervical cancer, you will have to be diligent in having annual check-ups, blood work etc...

I suggest that you stick with the internet since you can get a lot more information in short order...  I will give you a couple of web sites later...

I am confussed about the term "level 1 and level 2"....  Here is the USA Cervical Cancer is known by STAGES...  The stages of cervical cancer at Stage-0 through Stage IV and not levels...  See this web site
  www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_1X_What_is_cervical_cancer_8.asp
(then click on the box that says Early detection, staging and diagnosis)

If you are NOT in the USA, then I can't relate to LEVEL inorder to help you, but if you ARE in the USA, then try to find out the EXACT staging....  Here is another web site about STAGES of Cervical Cancer and treatment...
