Understanding Low Progesterone Levels in Early Pregnancy: What to Do
QuestionI am 37 years old and have had 2 children and no miscarriages. I had my period on April 4th 2006 and took a pregnancy test on May 11th and it was possitive. I think I should be around six weeks and I had a tras. vag. sonogram yesterday 5/16 they saw a gestational sac but to fetal stem ect. I do have PCOS and sometimes my period are irregular. The took a progesterone level and it was 17. I am very nervous could you tell me what you think. I have to go back on June 2 for another sonogram.
AnswerCongratulations Brenda!
I may be missing something- what are you nervous about? it is normal for them to see a gestational sac at this point with the transvaginal ultrasound.... Are you worried about the PCOS and the pregnancy? I am sure your doctor can manage that well... not sure what your progesterone level should be at this point but if it is not where it should be they can certainly give you progesterone supplements if it is too low. (there are pills, shots, etc)
I am sure on June 2 you will see much more in the ultrasound. How are your betas? Are they doing those quantitatively? (meaning doing repeat blood tests to see how high the Hcg is going)
I cant say for sure, but I think you will be just fine. Congrats! Enjoy the ride.
