Postpartum Bleeding After C-Section: Causes & When to Worry

Question
I have a 13 year old boy,, my delivery was a C-Section it was rough but I got through it,, I had a miscarriage in May of 2005 I healed up fine,, I now have a 6 1/2 month old baby and I also delivered C-Section he was born 4 weeks premature. He is in very good health and has been since I delivered him..
My question is I still am bleeding non stop since delivery,, the obgyn did a vaginal Ulltra Sound, a pelvic Ultra Sound , inserted an IUD Mirgana a month ago ,, and gave me birth control pills which I have been taking 2 a day for the past 5 days and I'm still bleeding is there any thing you can suggest for me to do now.
Thank You,
Mona

Answer
Have you been checked for a possible clotting disorder?  Some clotting disorders can appear later in life, as a result of autoimmune disease.  If you are low in platelets, your uterus could be having difficulty closing off the postpartum bleeding.  Also, I would question whether you should keep the IUD in at this time.  I imagine the purpose in using a Mirena IUD for you was to slow the bleeding with the progesterone secreted by this particular brand of IUD; however, the bleeding has not been stopped now, and the irritation caused by the presence of the IUD could now be making things worse.  Finally, you may want to seek a second opinion; a new doctor with a fresh perspective may be able to find something your first doctor has overlooked.
