QuestionQUESTION: my boyfriend and i seperated.... we still were sleeping together. i had sex april 18th with someone not my ex. I had my last period that i can remember feb 7th my period is very irregular. took a preg test around march 15th it was negative. i now am pregnant due jan 12th i had a 9 week ultrasound done june 8th. Who can be the dad? have you heard of the dna test that is taken before the baby is born with blood ????
ANSWER: Currently, there are only 2 techniques that can be done in vitro to determine paternity. They are both expensive and carry serious risks. The first is amniocentesis, which due to the possibility of premature rupture of membranes and miscarriage, some doctors will not do it unless there is a question of the baby's health. The second is through chorionic villus sampling. Due to the risks associated with it, however, most doctors will not perform it after the 13th week of pregnancy and some may not do it at all unless there is a pressing medical need.
If the ultrasound estimated that you were in your 9th week of pregnancy on June 8th, you most likely conceived around April 12th-April 20th. This would put the sexual encounter on April 18th as very likely when you got pregnant. Given that your period is very irregular, the best guess that can be done is through the diagnostic ultrasound. If you did not sleep with your ex any time in the beginning or middle of April, I doubt he is the father. I would contact the person you slept with around the 18th and inform them that there is a strong possibility that he may be the father.
However, I think the most important thing for you to do at this point is take care of yourself. Try to sleep, try to relax. Realize that regardless of who the father is, your baby is depending on YOU and you alone at this point. =) Your baby needs you to get rest, eat healthily, and relax. I recommend that you not worry about paternity until after the baby is born. Then you can get a simple DNA test done with the man you slept with on the 18th and/or your ex. Once the baby is born, it is much, much easier and less dangerous to get a paternity test.

QUESTION: thank you so much for the advice! I have one more question i had found a website that offers non-invassive paternity tests. they take my blood then saliva from the supposed father. they said that they take dna which is the childs from my blood? does that seem right or even fiesable???
ANSWER: I don't believe that they can obtain the child's DNA from your blood. Now there is an exchange between your child's bloodstream and yours- this is how you get nutrients in and out. However, I do not believe they can use it to determine paternity accurately. I do know that they can use maternal blood sampling to determine the presence of some fetal diseases and to determine the baby's blood type. However, I don't believe there would be enough genetic information present to provide an accurate DNA match. They would have to take a sample of something that has the same genetic makeup as your child- such as cell samples, chorionic villus, or amniotic fluid. You can try it if you wish, but it may not be very accurate. I would make sure that they are certified by the American Association of Blood Banks, otherwise they may not be up to standard. If they aren't certified, I personally would not spend my money on it.

QUESTION: Thats what I was thinking its probably a scam. I am sorry I have all these questions but just one more. Last night I was thinking very hard to try to htink of events that had happened in the end of march and all through-out april. It accured to me that I had my period march 26th, I know that for a fact! I just don't remember if that was the start or what, I also know it ended before march 31st. So I was thinking that my due date would now be Dec. 31st-ish, and there would be no way that it could be the other guys(i had sex with him april 18th.) Is that true? Can the doctor be off by about two weeks( doc due date-jan. 12th) with an ultrasound that was done june 8th ( june 8th-9weeks) ? So in reality I should be 18 weeks not 16???? What do you think? The doc also said my period started april 5th, but i also dont have a regular period, i last remember it comming feb 1st. Im just so confused and really want to rule out april 18th as being the possible date of conception.
AnswerI'm sorry this response took so long but I consulted a few sources to try to give you the most comprehensive answer possible. =)
If you are sure you had your period March 26, you were most likely fertile between April 10th and April 18th. This is if you have a normal 28 day cycle. Since you do not, it is really anyone's guess at this point. If you have a longer cycle, it makes the possibility even higher than the April 18th encounter is the one that got you pregnant. In addition, sperm can stay in your body for up to 5 days. If you had unprotected sex with anyone from April 10th to April 20th, they would be a candidate for potential paternity.
There is no way that you can rule out the April 18th encounter at this point, unfortunately. That man may very well be the child's father. I recommend that you not worry about this now, concentrate on the pregnancy, and then get paternity tests done, if you wish, after your baby is born. =)
