Postpartum Period Return After Breastfeeding: What to Expect

Question
Hi, I had my baby in August and she is now 11 weeks old. I am breast feeding and wondering when my menstraul cycle should return?

Answer
Breastfeeding can delay your cycles for a few months. A close friend of mine didn't have her period for over 6 months because she was breastfeeding. Most women see this as an upside, however, I understand that it can be worrysome to others. If it doesn't come in another month, you may want to consider going on a progesterone-only birth control pill that is compatible with breastfeeding but should gently kick your body back into its cycle.

If you are having unprotected sex, you may want to periodically take pregnancy tests. Even without having your period, you can still get pregnant.

Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.

Best wishes!
Helen =)
