Amniotic Fluid After Birth: Debunking the Myth

Question
Is it true that after you give birth, the amniotic fluid stays in your body for up to a year? My husband says that he heard that the fluid is still present in the body for up to a year and it comes out whenever a woman has an orgasm.

Answer
No, this is not true.  All the amniotic fluid is expelled from the baby when the baby is born, along with the placenta.  Any remaining products of conception, along with the lining of the uterus, are completely cleaned out with the lochia during the next few weeks, and nothing remains.
