Understanding Pregnancy After Abortion & Depo Provera
QuestionI've recently had an abortion. That same day I also received the Depo Provera shot. Two weeks later (one week ago today) I had unprotected sex. Obviously not learning my lesson the first time. Now I am terrified that I may be pregnant again. But am not sure that the positive pregnancy results on the over-the-counter test I used are showing new pregnancy hormones or ones still in my system from the original pregnancy. From what I've read, the Depo should have been fully in effect (at the max.) two weeks after the injection but would the abortion have extended the time before it was fully effective? This is the first time I've ever used the shot and am just not sure if I should be seriously worried or not. I know you can't tell me whether or not I am pregnant. I just want to know the effectiveness of the shot, immediately after an abortion and if the abortion would affect the shot's effectiveness. Any information you could provide would be great. Thanks!

It is very possible that you are getting a false positive result. Depo Provera is supposed to be effective within 24 hours of receiving an injection (abortion or not), so you're probably fine.
Getting a blood test from a doctor is the only way that you are going to be able to get immediate and accurate answers to this question. You should (and deserve to) give yourself some peace of mind and go get that blood test.
Good luck,
