QuestionMy girlfriend recently had an abortion(10/25/07). She got a slight infection after, but other than that everything seemed ok. We didn't have sex for a few weeks after she had it. She made sure to take her pill on time everyday before we resumed sexual activity . Today (11/13/07) she went to the doctor to change her birth control pill. She was given a urine test and a blood test, both of which came back positive. Could these results be inaccurate? Is it possible that her hormone levels are still elevated from the previous pregnancy?
AnswerHi James !
1) Could these results be inaccurate? answer: yes
2) Is it possible that her hormone levels are still elevated from the previous pregnancy? answer: yes
So: these tests are very sensitive and may stay positive to three weeks after the abortion.
On the other hand you should not "resume sexual activity" until 3 weeks after the intervention.
Then: the contraceptive pill, in the first month, is not 100 % reliable.
bye bye for now, have another test done in two weeks time and in the meantime cross your fingers and use condoms.
