Diane 35 Experience: Side Effects and Heavy Bleeding - Patient Story

Question
Hi! I have a question, i hope you can help me.. Here's my situation.. I have myoma the size of around 5cm, and experiencing sort of heavy bleeding and heavy cramps on my first day of periods. My doctor suggested that i try diane35, i took it on 9/14/12 (first day of my period) and only took it for a week (until 9/20/12) because i'm experiencing a lot side effects such as headaches all the time, vaginal discharge and itching, problems with contact lens, etc. so i decided to stop taking it. Then after almost a week, 9/26 mid-morning, started to bleed a little until now which become heavier and heavier along with bad cramps. By heavy i mean, 9/26 used a small pad, today 9/27 used 3 pads. I'm not quite sure what is wrong with me, i hope you could help me. Thanks a lot in advance.

Answer
What you're experiencing is normal.  When a woman takes the pill for 1 week and stops, she'll have a withdrawal period.  It's the same (almost) as when she takes the pill for 21 days, as per usual pill taking, or 3 months, which some pills use.  When a woman stops taking the pill, there is a drop in hormone levels, and that brings on a period, just like happens during a normal menstrual cycle.  At the end of the month, the hormone level drops, and that brings on a period.  The period you're having will usually be shorter and lighter than your usual periods, since the uterine lining only had 7 days to build up.
