QuestionHi Marina
I have been on birthcontrol pills for nearly 4 years and i have never missed a period. I will be going on vacation and i am due the week I am going to be away. I really would like to either push back by period until I get home or skip the period altogether(whichever is safest). I am wondering if there are any harmful effects in doing this and what exactly I should do? I would really appreciate any help you can provide :) thanks
AnswerHi Julie,
You didn't say whether you are on a monophasic or a triphasic pill. Here's how you skip your period with a monophasic pill, simply skip all the inactive pills and start directly on a new pack if you use the 28-pill version. If you use the 21-pill version start directly on a new pack when you have finished your current.
You will not have a bleeding before you finish both packs.
If you are on a triphasic pill, after you have taken all the active pills, take a new pack but continue taking only the pills that have the same colour as the last ones you took on the previous pack (these are often yellow). When you have finished these (yellow?) pills on the second pack, finish the pack as usual, by either taking all the inactive pills or having a pill free week in which a bleeding will occur.
There is no risk connected to skipping a period once in a while.
Good luck!
Marina
