Delayed Period After Starting Birth Control: What to Do?

Question
Hello,

I am on bcp and i take them daily, never missed a pill and was never late! On the third day of my period, when i started the pills, i had dry humping (while wearing panties and nylon pad) and after that, throughout the month i have had nothing, no sex, no humping, nothing at all. I am definite this can't cause pregnancy; however i am now on my fifth day of my pill-free week and yet i did not get my period!
I hate when it doesn't come on time and i start wondering why!
I took a test two days ago and it of course came negative!
what might be the reason?

Answer
When women take the pill, their periods usually get lighter, due to the effect of daily progesterone.  Sometimes the get so light that they don't come at all.  That's what has happened to you.  It's not harmful in any way.  If you prefer to get a period every month, you could ask your doctor to switch you to a different pill, as this happens more with some pills than others.  However, some women prefer not having periods, and you could also just keep taking the same pill, and you may or may not get periods.
