Missed Birth Control Pill & Potential Pregnancy: What To Do

Question
Hi, I am a married mother of 2.  I decided to try the bc pill after years of condom use.  I started on a sunday and missed a pill that thursday.  I did not take 2 pills the next day, only one at my regular time.  I had bleeding that day that stopped.  A few days later, I felt like I ovulated (I can always tell when I do).  About 5 or 6 days later, I had unprotected sex with my husband.  I thought it would be ok, that it had been long enough since ovulation, but now a few days later, I am worried and I have been feeling kind of sick.  Could I be pregnant?  Also, I HATE the way I feel on the pills!  I have been taking them for about 2 weeks now, and I really want to stop.  Is it ok to stop taking them mid-cycle or do I have to finish the whole pack?  Any advice would be appreciated and I will call my doctor when the office is open!  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Julie,
Thanks for your question! I'm not a medical doctor but will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability. You would want to consult with your personal physician as you mentioned. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and let me know what he or she says about the matter-I'm curious. It is possible that you could be pregnant. The pill is not 100% effective and if you had unprotected sex, the chances are a little higher. The birth control pills have hormones in them and have risks and side effects. I do not recommend the pill because of my experience with it years ago. I really don't know what to say about stopping mid-cycle. Ask the doctor and let me know. Oh, and a good method of birth control would be natural family planning. I can give you more info.
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
