Birth Control & Sex During Placebo Week: Safety Concerns

Question
i asked Diane Cheryl and she told me to ask you this question and that you may be able to help me so...

ive been on birth control for about 5 months now and ive always wondered would I be just as protected if i were to have sex during the placebo's (in mind that ive been on 5 months)?

And in the paper insturctions it says don't have sex before 7 days of taking the active pill, but i doesn't say anything about after you have been on the pill for more than a month.
would i be safe if i were to have sex between the 1st and 7th day of starting a new pack?

Answer
If you've been on the pill for more than one month you are protected from the beginning of every pack, from the first day.  Of course, this presupposes that you have taken it EXACTLY as prescribed, every day.  The margin for error is 1-20% depending of how much of an error you commit and how fertile you are, etc.  This is because there is no birth control that is 100% effective.  One should always be careful unless having a baby is an option.
