Mirena vs. Paragard IUD: A Comparison for Non-Pregnant Women

Question
Hello,
I'm 28, have never been pregnant, and have been on the generic of microgestin fe 1.5/30 for the past 5 years. My husband and I have decided to wait a few more years before having kids and I'm looking into getting an IUD. Originally I was set on the paragard because I didn't want to deal with any more hormones (microgestin was fine at first, but the longer I've been on it, the more side effects I've been having - nausea, constantly feeling warm, low libido, acne, etc., all of which tend to go away during the placebo week of pills). I know paragard comes with heavier periods, but I understand that they go away after awhile and that they can be controlled (to a degree) with ibuprofen. My doctor really recommended mirena, though, and pointed out that the level of hormones in it is way less than I've been taking. I'm kind of torn right now, and I'm wondering if you can tell me whether there has been any studies addressing whether women who are sensitive to the hormones in birth control also tend to have bad reactions to the hormones in Mirena. Also, have you found that women tend to react better to Mirena or Paragard?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
Usually women who are sensitive to the hormones in the pill don't have a problem with Mirena, since the progesterone from Mirena is working locally in the uterine lining, and hardly any gets to the rest of the body.  In general, I would say that women react better to Mirena than Paragard, although there are exceptions.
