Estrogen and Birth Control: Potential Risks & Yaz Concerns

Question
Hi Diana :D

Well for quite a few years now I've been on combined oral contraceptives (first the patch, then estrostep which jacked up my mental health, now yaz, which has been working fine). Well, I've been getting random pain in my leg-a week ago it hurt all night, then all day it was almost numb feeling. I'm worried about a blood clot. Then a study was released, about how certain birth control pills are safer depending on which estrogen is in them, and yaz has one of the types that increases the chance of a blood clot 6.5 times. So I'm going to be going to my doctor sometimes this month. I'm thinking of choosing a progesterone only method, and I was wondering if you knew if those methods also carry the risk of blood clots? Thanks!

Answer
Hey,

I think you should get to a doctor asap. Sounds like a blood clot, and if that moves to your heart or brain, it can kill you. It is very important you go to hospital.

I think you should stop taking oral contraceptives as it seems you clot easily. Have you tried depo shot?
