QuestionI am 8 &half weeks pregnant and 9 days ago I had some peachy colored blood. It was a very small amount and only was visible once when I wiped. Then 3 days ago I had one very small blood clot when I wiped nothing else, i've never had any pain or cramping. Ive been very nauseos but ive had 3 kids and always have bad morning sickness the first 3 months. Is it possible that iv'e had a miscarriage and had no pain or heavy bleeding. If I did will my period start back even if its a incomplete miscarriage and I dont get a d&c? I have a dr's appointment but it's 3 weeks away so I wanted a early expert opinion.
AnswerDear Brandi,
Vaginal bleeding can occur frequently in the 1st trimester of pregnancy and may not be a sign of problems. Bleeding can be a sign of miscarriage but does not mean that miscarriage is imminent. Studies show that anywhere from 20-30% of women experience some degree of bleeding in early pregnancy. Approximately half of pregnant women who bleed do not have miscarriages.
Unless you begin to experience heavier bleeding with cramping (like severe menstrual cramps), I would not be overly concerned at this point. If you begin to have those types of symptoms, you should see your doctor so that an actual miscarriage can be confirmed.
Some women who do lose their pregnancies opt for natural miscarriages, but more often than not a D&C is suggested, especially when beyond 8-10 weeks. Many who do not have D&Cs initially end up having to have one anyway if the uterus does not empty all contents completely.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
Brenda
