Prolonged Bleeding After NuvaRing Switch: Causes & Solutions

Question
Ok, so a few weeks ago I decided I wanted to switch from the pill (orthotricycline) to the Nuva ring. Well after about six weeks I didn't went back to my doctor and switched back to the pills, as the Nuva ring gave me vaginal irritation. I started my period about the day after the appointment, which was two and a half weeks ago. I am STILL bleeding. It varys from light-heavy, and sometimes doesn't appear at all. (It is activated by sex/masturbation it seems, but I KNOW it's a menstrual cycle, since I have normal cramps, plus just the way it looks.)

So I don't know if I should just wait this out, or if I need to seek medical attention. I was on the Depo shot three years ago (I stopped it two years ago) and had 4 months of constant bleeding, which I waited out...I really don't want to bleed for 4 months again so any help is appreciated!

Thank you so much for your help!
Chanelle

Answer
Hi Chanelle,

Thanks for your question. I'm glad you got off the Nuva Ring but I don't recommend the birth control pill either. In my opinion, this is close to the Nuva Ring as it has side effects which could affect your health in the future. I would recommend that you contact your doctor if you are still having bleeding at this time. Please explain what is happening and I'm sure you can get an appointment soon. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com so we can talk more.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
