Emergency Contraception (Tri-Cyclen) & Blood Clot Risk: What You Need to Know

hi there, hoping you are doing great. I am 26 yr old married. Last week on Monday my husband and I had sex,n the condom broke off. I went to the Doctor on Tuesday n gave me Tri-cyclen 8 tablets as emeregency contraceptive. I took 4 tablets on Tuesday morning n 4 tablets after 12 hrs.
   I would also like to mention that i only use condomsas birth control method. it was the 1st time in my life that i used pills.
   I am worried what if i develop a blood clot in my leg...cause its one of the side effects. what do u think my chances are??? Also, i do not have any health problem.

Dear Ambreen, Hope you are well. Have you had any side effects at all? Let me know. I would not recommend you to take emergency contraception again ever. I presume you have done research and have found out the side effects such as you mentioned. I can't tell you if you would have a blood clot, no one can predict that. Are you having any abnormal bleeding? Read the article at http://www.optionline.org about the morning after pill or Plan B. If you have sex and the condom breaks, there probably is just a small chance or pregnancy and you would not want to take the chance of emergency contraceptives because of possibility of side effects.
