Understanding Postpartum Bleeding: What's Normal & When to Worry

I had normal bleeding a little over two weeks pp then it got lighter and was the light brown discharge but not much. The middle of the third week I decided to have sex( stupid I know, I had been on my birth control almost 20 days and used the pull out method as well which never failed for us before. ) the next day I began cramping bad like I was staring my period. I didn't. The day after I still was cramping and when I got up I went to the bathroom and there was bright red blood just a few drops  after that it turned to a pinkish color the next 2-3 days it was bright red (before my periods only lasted 3-4 days.) It has recently turned to a light brown color and just stopped last night. I am now 5 weeks pp. Now my question is was that my period? I was coming up on the inner ring of my mini pill. I read that implantation bleeding will be dark and doesn't start that soon after sex, but should I still worry about that as well? Or was it still postpartum bleeding?
Details: gave birth may 20, finished 28 pack of jolivette. 35 mg today sex occurred june 13 this day I was a few hrs late on my pill (2 hrs) and the sex occurred within that 2 hrs only time I have missed or been late on it. Slight nausea today but may be due to worrying. I breastfed for 1.5 weeks then strictly formula fed.
any details about fertility, ovulation, or pregnancy chances pp in my case would be helpful any info related to my case would be wonderful

Most bleeding in the first 5-6 weeks after childbirth is still related to the pregnancy and is from the area where the placenta was attached.  Since you were on the pill, the chance of pregnancy is remote.  However, in the future, since you don't wish to become pregnant, I would recommend that you change to the combined birth control pill, which is a little more effective.  Jolivette is a progestin only pill, which is ideal while breastfeeding, but usually after stopping breastfeeding we recommend switching to the combined pill, which is both a little more effective and better at keeping your periods normal.
