Understanding Mid-Cycle Bleeding After Stillbirth: Causes & What to Do

Question
Hi, I am a 29year old. We had a stillborn baby at 39weeks 6months ago by csection, after that my periods came normal. Now, I had my last period on 9th June 2007(I always have a 29days cycle)but on 29thJune 2007 I noticed some bleeding it was not too much, but i panicked and went to the doctors,he did a ultrasound, physical check and a papsmear(result not out yet). The Ultrasound and physical examination was alright and the doc said everything is normal, maybe the bleeding was due to ovulation. However I had started bleeding again on 30th June and then on 1st July it was the amount you would have in a period. Today its 4th July and i've been bleeding like a normal period. Im not sure whats going on, as its been 5days (the last 3days ive had regular period bleeding, the first 2days was very less). I generally have a 6day period. And this is still going on. Not sure why. What should I do? Should I go to the doc again?

Answer
Dear Shilpa,

If you went to the doctor on 6/29 and he did a full work-up with ultrasound, I don't think any more can be done to determine a cause now - just a week later.

I would suspect this is simply a short cycle - an early period. Sometimes women who have very regular cycles of 28 or 29 days have an occasional short or long cycle. This usually just has to do with a bit of a hormonal imbalance for that cycle.

My suspicion is that you will finish this period and return to a fairly normal cycle length for you - or they may be a bit shorter, and that's ok too. As long as periods are coming regularly, you know that you are probably ovulating regularly as well. If you are ovulating, you are fertile and can conceive if that is what you wish to do.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I apologize for the delay in the answer - I was on a rare vacation for the 4th and for some reason this system didn't schedule it as it should have.
