Delayed Period After Childbirth & IUD Insertion: What to Expect

I am 24, I have a 5 year old and just had a baby almost 6 weeks ago.
I am scheduled for an IUD on thursday but have not had a period yet..
I have had sex but we have used protection and have been very careful. Should I be concerned?

Answer
If you had sex, you could have become pregnant despite using protection. However, it is doubtful. Although it is easier to insert an IUD if you are having your period at the time, you can still have the IUD inserted even if you have not gotten your period. If you have any doubts, take a pregnancy test.
