Questionok,so i kinda feel like a big dummy here but in May of this year i became pregnant unexpectantly. I decided to have an abortion. Because I was 11 weeks at the time I had a surgical procedure. I started taking birth control faithfully never missing a single dose. however, 3 weeks ago i found out that i am once again pregnant. my husband and i are going through a separation as of lately and i decided to once again have another abortion. I went today and was 8 weeks so i started with the pill this time. on saturday i am to follow up with the other 2 pills but now im scared out of my mind after reading all the side effects online. what happens if i dont take the other pills? and later down the road if the right person comes along what are my chances of being able to have a normal pregnancy that im happy about? im not a bad person just in a bad situation. please help....
AnswerHi :)
Never feel like a dummy. You're anything but. The side effects you read about may have been fake. There's a lot of fake abortion sites out there, made by those who are anti-abortion and want to scare and coerce women like you into not having the procedure. Negative side effects like intense cramping, nausea, chills, and even vomiting are normal as long as they don't last too long. Those are normal. They don't happen with everyone though. Other side effects, like excessive bleeding (just make sure you don't soak through more than 1 pad in an hour) require hospital care, and as long as you receive that care, you'll be ok. A lot of women have very physically painful experiences, a lot don't at all. But that pain will not cause you harm-it will suck and be horrible, but you'll come out just fine.
Here's some good info: http://www.prochoice.org/about_abortion/facts/medical_abortion.html
It's best to take the pills. The first pills stop the pregnancy from growing-if you don't take the other pills to expel the embryo from your uterus, then you'll need the surgical procedure anyway.
Your chances of having a normal pregnancy you're happy about are just as good as any other woman's! The abortions don't effect your ability to conceive or gestate to full term. Maybe if they were illegal and done by someone who didn't know what they were doing, you would have a problem. But legal procedures will likely not affect you in the least. Abortions are the most commonly performed procedure, and safer than having wisdom teeth removed. And I came out of my wisdom teeth removal just fine ;). But really, your chances are just as good as if you hadn't had the abortions. All that's happening is removing the lining and contents of your uterus, which happens every month (for some women) on their menstrual cycle. Just this time, there's more contents for the uterus to get rid of. Good luck, and please let me know if you have any further concerns.
