Subchorionic Bleeding During Abortion: Understanding Risks & Concerns
QuestionHi. I am 10 weeks and am scheduled for a surgical abortion later this week. My concerns are
1. My doctor called me today to say that I have bleeding between my placenta and uterus. I am not currently vaginally bleeding but was for 2 weeks after a vaginal ultrasound at 6 weeks.
2. I was using protection (spermacide) when I got pregnant this time. I was pregnant and had a surgical abortion approx six to seven months ago, and was using condoms at that time. I am worried that having 2 abortions so close together could be too risky health wise.
PLEASE HELP!!!
AnswerDear Christina,
There are no concerns with having a second abortion, even at one or two months later, so you will be completely fine. The abortions should not affect your fertility. As far as the bleeding, subchorionic bleeding is typically normal and of no concern in ending a pregnancy; however I can't tell you for sure without reviewing your actual records. It would be best to call your doctor and see if he or she has concerns.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
