Understanding Abortion Pills: RU-486 & Misoprostol - A Patient's Concern

Hai Dr Joan, I'm from malaysia. I'm 6 weeks pregnant now. I already have a 5years old son and 2years old daugther. Last week i went to Dr office for abortion. Dr give me 9 pill for oral each day 3 table and for 3 day(forget the name). 1 week later back to Dr office check utlrasound and the baby are still in there. 10 years ago i have 1 time abortion (MVA). So scary, really don't want go that place 1 more time. Scary than I give birth. Should i ask Dr about RU486 or ?? HELP!!

I am sorry you are in this difficult situation. You should definitely get RU486 to end the pregnancy.  If you have already taken misoprostol, you now must follow through with the abortion, because misoprostol causes birth defects.  

The best option is to take the RU486 - it has a 98% effectiveness rate, compare to misoprostol alone which is about 80%. It would be ok for you can also try to take the misoprostol again.  There is a better way to take it:  You must take four misoprostol tablets and but them in your cheek (two on one side between your teeth and your cheek, and two on the other side).  Let them dissolve for 30 minutes, swallow what is remaining.  You can repeat this every 24 hours up to three times.
